Ian Frame 1954-2005
Ian Frame grew up in the Renfrewshire town of Barrhead. In 1971 he enrolled in Glasgow School of Art. His studies were interrupted by two gap years during which he developed a life-long love of travel and he subsequently graduated from the Printmaking Department in 1978. Ian’s growing interest in film led him in 1980 into a BBC traineeship and on to a successful career in film editing – working on such programmes as Tutti Frutti, Boswell and Johnson and Ma Cheatin’ Heart with the BBC and beyond into freelance work.
During this time Ian continued to produce artwork and in 1997 during a sojourn to Western Crete, held his first solo exhibition in Kastelli Town Hall. On his return to Scotland he made the transition to full time painter and in 1998 moved to East Lothian with his partner Laura.
Ian loved the big skies, the wonderful beaches and the special light that he found here. East Lothian became a major inspiration for him alongside other areas of Scotland and the Mediterranean, which he continued to explore over the years.
He was working towards contributing to several exhibitions when he tragically died of a heart attack in October 2005. The prints available are of his most recent works.
